About the Event

The University of Florida College of Education hosted the AI in Education mini-symposium on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. This event served as an opportunity for researchers, educators, administrators, NVIDIA representatives and students to discuss the trends and issues in AI in education. As UF moves to become the nation’s first comprehensive AI university, the College of Education’s Institute for Advanced Learning Technology is positioning itself as a notable partner in AI research and instruction.

9:15 – 9:30AM  Welcome and AI in Education Updates from UF Leadership (Dr. David Reed, Associate Provost for Strategic Initiatives and Director of UF’s Artificial Intelligence Academic Initiative Center)

9:30  – 10:00AM Spark Talks: PIs discuss their projects and the funding agencies supporting their work (Dr. Nancy Ruzycki, FL Dept. of Education; Dr. Anthony Botelho, Schmidt Futures; Dr. Maya Israel, NSF ITEST)

10:00 – 10:15AM Coffee break

10:15 – 11:00AM  Poster/demo session

11:00 – 12:00PM   AI in Education Panel (via Zoom) moderated by Dr. Corinne Huggins-Manley. Panelists include Dr. Nia Dowell, Dr. James Lester, and Dr. Kate Moore, MIT.

12:00 – 1:00PM   Lunch and networking

1:00 – 1:30PM   AI in education course intro and course showcase

1:30 – 2:30PM   Thematic breakouts:

  • AI for Decision Making in Education (analytics, IoT etc)
  • AI for Designing Adaptive Learning Experiences and Curricula
